Anybody do any turkey hunting today?  Any good turkey hunting stories?  I was planning on going out but later didn't, had other things that needed done, but might get out here sometime during the season.

Hey Mark!
Got a nice bird this morning. Cool story behind it, but that's for another time.
Lot's of elk in the area ~ what a great day to be in Pa. Back country!

I was able to harvest a jake opening morning. I setup on the edge of a field, at first light I had two birds gobble within 75 yards from the roost. First one flew down and landed within 10 yds of me. I let him go by then the second bird flew down. It took him a few minutes to get to me but he too walked past at only 10 yds. I didn't really want to take a jake but it was too good of an opportunity to pass up. They both were jakes so I took the bigger of the two as they walked across the field at 25 yds. 5 inch beard and I would guess 15lbs. I went out later in the morning with my bro-in-law and called for him. We had one come in to around 50 yds but he decided to hold off for a better shot. I think it was a jake also. All in all it was a great opening morning.

Certainly great to have success on opening day.  Also great to see you could involve your little on in the success photos.  Something great he can look back at years to come and never too young to get him interested.

I passed one one Jake, one with a 6/7 beard, had two long beards come in but things did not work out as planned.  I have been on birds, and birds, and birds, but everything has hens, hens and more hens.  The season has been unreal for hearing birds and getting on them clean untill late afternoon.  I have hit area afer area and worked bird after bird but everything I have ran into has been hened up.  From the roost they pitch right to the hens and the hens take them away.  When yuo get on them mid afternoon the hens just take them away.

A buddy and I did call in one HUGE Bob Cat which was cool!

Good Luck,

Snapper
